Coils and Coins Detecting
Австралия
Добавлен 23 окт 2021
Coils and Coins Detecting is all about my metal detecting adventures, and my interest in coins. I also enjoy making tutorials to help people who are new to detecting and collecting.
While it's always nice to find coins, I'm also looking for anything interesting, such as relics, tokens, medals, jewelry, and maybe even gold!
It has always fascinated me as to what treasures might lie beneath our feet, and since I started metal detecting 3-4 years ago, I've been finding out! I love the history behind the objects I find, and often the most rewarding part of this hobby is the research. I particularly enjoy finding objects dated around WW1 and WW2,
I still have many items left to find on my bucket list, so let's get digging and noodling!
Topics of interest include: metal detecting, relic hunting, magnet fishing, coin collecting, prospecting, fossicking etc.

I found some Sensational Silver while metal detecting with the Minelab Manticore!
In this video I return to a site with over 200 years of history, looking for more 1800's treasure!
I find some awesome old coins and relics from when this site was a busy berry farm and orchard back in the 1800's and early 1900's. Amazingly, I didn't find a single copper coin, but I made up for it with Silver!
Join me on the hunt!

G R E A T, thank you! 👏👏👏👏👏
Great little coils, nox 800/ 900.
Hi there, i am at orielton near sorell , do u have an email or fb contact list. thanks
Great video.what size power bank is that does it have to be to charge the detector?
Thanks for the clear and well explained video. I had no idea it was either F2 or FE2 utilised at any one time.
Glad to hear the video was useful! Thanks for watching!
I found a wavy 20c last night in a coin roll in Brisbane
Nice work! They’re very hard to find!
@@coilsandcoinsdetecting well I think it's one, I made a short of it on my channel if you want to see it
I’m trying to find a metal detector or pinpointer than coin alert me when there’s a silver quarter mixed in with about 100 clad quarters when spread out on a table. Do you have any suggestions?
Interesting idea. You could use a small coil (Eg 6”) on an Equinox detector. You would need to make sure that you reduce the sensitivity way down so that other metal objects in the vicinity didn’t interfere with it, and make sure the table did t have any metal frame/legs etc. You could then discriminate out the target ID for the clad coin, and look for the target ID of the silver coin (which would be much higher). It would be best to spend the coins out as much as possible so the clad coins weren’t masking out the silver coin. Good luck with it!
@@coilsandcoinsdetecting Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure I’m that committed to spending $1xxx to find a few $5 coins but I have about $15,000 in quarters every month and I can’t seem to find an efficient way to pull out the silver coins mixed in. If you think of any other ideas let me know!! ;)
Thanks alot for the video! I have a minelab 700. I just used it for the first time yesterday. I need all the help I can get. This video helped me!
I’m happy to hear that it’s been helpful! Good luck!
GREAT VIDEO TNKS👌
Thanks for watching!
I NEW ON THIS JOBBY , TWO DAYS AGO I FUND A JFK HALF DOLLAR COIN WITH 6 INCH COIL IN THE PARK …GREAT VIDEO …NEW SUSCRIPTER 👍
Thanks for watching the video! Good luck and happy hunting!
8:21, will AirPod pros 2 work?
Model & approx cost of detector please
Great clip Steve. FWIW, I did a jewellery search recently on a school oval, a requirement was no digging the playing surface. I dropped the sensitivity to 10 and was still picking up decimals at 4 inches deep on the spectator area. So frustrating to hear hundreds of dollars on the playing surface.
It’s a powerful machine, that’s for sure. I’ve actually settled on running at sensitivity of around 18 and recovery speed around 3-4 for most hunts, as setting the sensitivity any higher makes for more confused signals. Hearing all of those nice $1 and $2 signals without being able to dig them would have been torture - what about using a coin popper - would that be allowed - you know the knife shaped tool with a hook on the end so you can hook the coin and pull it up to the surface without digging? Only useful if the coin is within 2-3 inches of the surface though…
Where in oz are you?
I like it when you show a cleaned up coin at the end of the clip.
Great video I have my equinox 900 arriving soon 😀
Awesome machine! Good luck with it, and happy hunting!
Good job, love detecting but never know where to go now days, ...
That’s the hardest part. So many people detecting, so many people doing the wrong thing - makes it tough for those of us trying to enjoy our hobby while being respectful and ethical. Most obvious places have been detected already, but that doesn’t mean they’ve found everything. Also need to think outside the box a little bit c- ask friends and relatives if you can detect their years, or ask if they know of anyone with old properties etc.
Actual good tips. Thanks for the upload, mate
No worries mate! Thanks for watching!
Well done Steve some great finds there. Amazing to find those old silvers but at the same time a little disheartening to see they have been so badly worn. Never the less they were identifiable and get to go to a good home. Cheers for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I always enjoy finding old silver, and the completely worn coin may have been a good luck coin, or a “worry” coin, constantly being rubbed between the fingers.
Any tips on finding old sites?
Old maps, or aerial photos if you can find them online. If you go to an old town, always worthwhile chatting with the locals to find out about the towns history.
Hi Steve, I did hear a story a little while ago that some coils warn with nothing on them were worry coins, people use to carry the coin around rubbing it between their fingers as they pondered life. But it could be just a story 😊
Yes, I’ve heard similar stories. I’ve also heard that some people would rub a “favourite” silver coin for luck, and eventually they’d end up worn smooth. I’d love to know that coin’s history!
You got to love the silvers well done on your finds Steven, 😉👍💯👋👌
Thanks Tony! Always love to find silver!
Great hunt Steve. Nice slivers!
Thanks! Old silver is always the best kind to find!
Steve, Sniffed Out Some Old Silver, Well done Mate,⛏⛏⛏⛏
Cheers Gav! Thanks for watching!
Nice as top stuff.😂.
Thanks!
Not too shabby day out.
I’ll take it!
Great score on the shillings 😱👌
Thanks mate! Always happy to find old silver!
Coffee and coils this morning! 🌅
Sounds perfect to me!
Howdy
Canadian here, our coins are a steel plated zinc. After one month in salt water they do this. On my machine they come up as garbage
Yep - it sounded horrible alright, but was a nice surprise!
Hadve? 😂😂
You bloody RIPPER Mate. More good luck for you buddy. Cheers 🤜🏻🍻🤛🏻🕶🦘👍🏻
Thanks! Good luck to you too!
Those old Aussie silver coins have great looking designs.
They sure do! They have so much more character than today’s coins.
Beautiful mate, love the commentary too.
Cheers mate!

Unfortunately, this never works for me. Almost always, there are other targets in the ground that it locks on to. I must jinxed with trashy ground. Enjoyed the video
Yes, it’s definitely harder with multiple targets all located closely together, but it can be done. If the target density is high, you’ll likely need a smaller coil to make this work.
Thanks, I never thought of that. Still have the smaller coil in the box.
I wish I half that I will bot a like
Is it really a ground balance or is it just desensitized?
Many pinpointers have a button that allows you to reduce the sensitivity. This is more a ground balance as it works by holding the pinpointer against the ground and pressing the button once to calibrate for the mineralisation in the soil, allowing the metal target to be more precisely located.
Ripper find Steve. Well done!
Thanks mate! Was a surprise that’s for sure!
Sword hanger. Worn on the belt
Interesting! I’ll have to research that further!
Is that considered old in Aus? In the UK I have older lying around. Not being funny btw just asking
Anything predecimal is generally considered old I think, at least for me. I’d love to come to the UK some day to find some truly old relics and coins though!
I have the equinox 900 ...i used it today in old park but i just got modern coins...so the old coins are deeper or what should i do ???
@@coilsandcoinsdetecting we would love to have you brother !
Coins are pretty good. But finds like these I find more interesting.
Agree!
The good old 705 XTERRA still got mine have not used it over a year now ,,
It’s still a very good machine I reckon, and my first ever “serious” detector!
Careful man bare hands you don't want to get stuck by a needle with hep
Worth 50 cents
Yep - all day, every day! 😂
Nice hunt! If you don't mind me asking, what digger are you using.
Cant remember the name but you can get them at minersden for around $35-$38. I have one. They are great and not as bulky as the red handled tyger digger.
Those pin pointers suck.
I’ve always found it very easy to use, reliable, and sensitive enough for my conditions. There are several good quality pinpointers on the market - each with their own pros and cons. Happy hunting!
That is my local beach
Great find!!!😎👍😎
How far south? Doesn't look like Tathra sand, so probably not Far South 😀
